In 1965, a young couple, Rubén and Rita Caro acquired Villa Cofresí, which back then was a humble restaurant made out of zinc and wood. It served the best Angus steaks, fresh seafood and Puerto Rican cuisine in the area. The couple began by building two rooms and then five more to start the hotel business. In the year 1968, the World Surfing Tournament was celebrated in Rincón. Back then, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company provided them incentives and the government gave them loans in order for them to build rooms for the surfers visiting Rincón from around the world. With this help twelve additional rooms were built. Hotel Villa Cofresí was the first hotel in Rincón and was the inspiration for other hotels, guest houses, and restaurants around the area. This has made Rincón one of the most popular vacation destinations in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
What started with two rooms evolved into a beach resort of 121 rooms today with a well known Restaurant, La Ana de Cofresí, which still serves the best steaks, seafood, and Puerto Rican Cuisine. Bohío Bar just steps from the beach serves casual food options and the original “Pirate Special” served in a fresh coconut since 1965. This unique drink is a mixture of several kinds of rum, coconut milk, and a hint of cinnamon. It is the most popular drink in Rincón and Porta del Sol. For more than 55 years, tens of thousands of tourists have flocked to Rincón to enjoy this tasteful and refreshing cocktail.
Spacious open-air lobby overlooking the ocean welcomes families into the hotel. Other amenities include swimming pool, souvenir shop, game room, gym, pool, and ping pong tables. Beach front gardens and Banquet Hall are available for special events including weddings, meetings, private parties and more.
Well after the 55th year anniversary, Hotel Villa Cofresí remains the favorite among locals and internationals being number one in Trip Advisor.
Since 1995, Rubén and Rita Caro’s children administer the hotel.
